ABOUT ME
My name is Daniel Loscos and I am entering my 22nd year as a Social Studies and Business Teacher for LAUSD. This will be my eleventh year at the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences teaching Advanced Placement United States History (A.P.U.S.H.), U.S. History, Principles of American Democracy (Government) and this year, Financial Planning. I’m also involved in athletics serving as both the girl’s and boy’s golf coach. I also serve as the class sponsor for the Senior class conducting weekly meetings, organizing and supervising class events.
I graduated from Franklin High School in Highland Park, CA and went on to earn a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Communications at California State University, Northridge.
Following graduation I went to work for a mutual fund company in Pasadena working in the Account Reconciliation Department. The monotony of office life and the daily view of a cubicle were soon too much, and I left there to become an independent Financial Planner, working mainly with educators, and presenting retirement workshops.
A chance opportunity landed me in a classroom, and I loved it from the start. I looked into the requirements to become a teacher, and soon after I went on to complete my credential at CSUN, earning a dual credential in Social Studies and Business. I currently live in the city of Granada Hills with my wife and two daughters.
I like to approach my teaching much as I do my life, with lots of passion and energy. I enjoy the challenges each new day may bring, and the rewards that come from successfully maneuvering through them. As a teacher, I have an opportunity to make a positive impact on a young person's life on a daily basis. That challenge is something I value dearly, and this semester I have 280 opportunities to make a difference every day.
If you need to contact me, I can be reached by email at [email protected]

MORNING IN THE SERENGETI
“Every morning in Africa, when the sun rises over the Serengeti, a Gazelle begins to run. Why? Because he knows that if he is not faster than the fastest lion, he will be caught, devoured, and surely die. And every morning in Africa, when the sun rises over the Serengeti, the lion also begins to run. Why? Because he knows that if he is not faster than the slowest gazelle, he will go hungry, starve, and surely die. The moral of the story is this; It doesn’t matter if you see yourself as the lion,or if you see yourself as the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you had better start running.”

A LITTLE MORE
ATTITUDE“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, "giftedness", or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home. The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes. "
